SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS

The Malaysian Hockey League is fast becoming the butt of jokes amongst the hockey fraternity.

While the initial intentions were noble – to create another platform for hockey players to be involved in competitive hockey throughout the year plus to introduce a Women’s Hockey League, it has obviously not been done with much thought and handled in a manner that cast serious aspersions on the ability of the MHC Competitions Committee.

The rules seem to be ambiguous, as there is no clarity on the eligibility of players, for instance can those involved in coaching the various national teams be allowed to play in the Division One.

Then there is the case of the womens league eligibility of players – if a player who is a national trainee but has yet to earn a single international cap be deemed as a national player.

But the crux of the problem is the constant, and last minute change of fixtures that have many stumped.

From the beginning the MHL was besieged by problems, as the fixtures for the Women’s League showed that it will be all over by April 12, hardly before anyone becomes aware of it. The Women’s League was being done to akin a “pasar malam” trader who comes one night, sells his wares and never to return, knowing that its sub standard items that were sold.

The teams were told off at the managers meeting on March 9, in simple words to adhere to what the Competitions Committee had decided, with no room to voice their displeasure. What was more baffling was that MHC Senior Vice President Prof Dr. Shamala Subramaniam was preset and said or did nothing to protect the interest of the women.

And now the fixtures have mysteriously been changed, extending the leage to end of April, when really that could and should have been decided much earlier if due care and planning was in place.

It gets better as matches scheduled for Sunday March 23 have now been postponed, with the final of the Sultan Azlan shah Cup cited as a reason. All of MHC was well aware that the final was on that day, so why schedule matches in the first place. As a matter of fact why can’t the Division One start after the Azlan Shah Cup, what was the big rush?

The MHC Competition Committee has to shoulder the blame for the state of affairs as it clearly showed poor planning and a total disregard to the importance of doing things the correct way, with decisions being made by a select few.

As an early notice to the Competitions Committee, are you aware that you have scheduled matches during the Champions Challenge period?

DEFYING HE SPORTS COMMISSIONER

The Malaysian Hockey Confederation has shown that it does not understand simple instructions as evident with the organizing of a so called briefing session for its affiliates.

MHC had sent out an email last Friday to all its affiliates seeking the attendance of Presidents and secretaries to a briefing session by the Director General of the Sports commissioners Office. This briefing was to e held in Ipoh and it largely touched on constitutional matters.

However checks with the Sports Commissioner Ahmad Shapawi Ismail revealed that they never requested for such a session ad had made it clear that the Sports Commissioners Office wanted to hold a special session with affiliates of the Perak Hockey Association.

“I made it very clear that the briefing is for Perak HA affiliates and not MHC. I do not know why MHC has invited their affiliates as this is something that we want to clear with Perak HA,” clarified Shapawi.

“I have directed my officers to inform MHC of this error by them and its for them to rectify it. We have no issues to discuss with MHC affiliates as all is running fine. It is Perak HA that is of our concern.”

To make matters clear, Perak HA are currently embroiled in a situation that could even render MHC illegal and hence the Sports Commissioners Office wanted to put things right in Perak.

This comes about after a complaint was filed against Ipoh City Hockey Association and the Sports Commissioners Office had directed Perak HA to investigate and revert. The investigation rvealed that a fresh election needed to be held and it was then that the Sports Commissioners Office directed ICHA and Perak HA to do so.

However both parties ignored the directive and went about doing business as usual with Perak HA even going a step further to endore a 10 year ban on the ICHA Deputy President.

And to make matters worse, certain officials of Perak HA went on to assume positions in certain districts despite not living in the said districts, thus further compounding matters.

And finally Perak HA is the onlt MHC affiliate that has yet to merge its men’s and women’s associations, thus running foul of the HC deadline of December 31 2013.

TAKING THEM FOR A rIDE

The Malaysian Hockey Confederation had sent out an email to its affiliates last Friday requesting the presence of President/Secretary to a briefing with the Director General of the Sports Development Office in Ipoh.

but now doubts have been raised by the Sports Commissioner himself as it was not something he had directed.

Rather the MHC stands accused of wrongful information as the Sports Commissioners Office had directed that a meeting of affiliates of the Perak Hockey Association be assembled. More details on thee tak HA saga later.

But the fact that the Hon. secretary of MHC misleading the affiliates is serious and almost akin to an election campaign by certain quarters as Perak HA is paying for board and lodging of the affiliates that come for the seminar.

When simple instructions are twisted, all because of an hidden agenda likely, one cannot but start questioning the direction the national hockey body is leading.

So it's best Temgku Abdullah spends some time to clean up the domestic mess in hockey before throwing his name in the hat for the office of President of FAM.

By the way Perak HA iis not sending a team for the National Under 16 women's tournament

COLD TREATMENT

A senior official of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation as instructed the MHC staff not to provide me with any details on tournaments organized by them.

Despite bringing this matter up with the MHC Competitions Chairman M.Gobinathan last Thursday, they have yet to furnish me with the fixtures for the Malaysian Hockey League, be it the Division One and Women's League.

The same treatment was dished out with regards to the National Under 16 that commences this week.

However friends in the hockey community have been helping me by providing information of the tournaments.

To members of the media, please note that I am not involved in the MHL hence I am not able to assist with any information.

The website www.tnbmhl.com.my will endeavor to provide news and results as and when we are able to do so.

As for the non cooperation from MHC, well looking at their website one can judge why they are doing what they are.

Back to serious blogging as we will reveal some startling attempt to buy over affiliates...

UNVEILING THE TRUTH

Many have asked why I failed to secure the Media Relations work for the Champions Challenge. Some have implied that it was a way for MHC to teach me a lesson.

Until I received this long SMS forwarded to me by a top ranking MHC official who felt that I deserved to know the truth hence the mystery is unveiled.

It had nothing to do with ability or pricing, the decision as one could see here was done all because of doing a favour in return of a favour.

Read this message and realise how decisions are made.

Fwd:
Dear esteem members. I have taken note of all the suggestions discussed in the meeting yesterday. As much as both xxxxxxx/xxxxx was good I feel we should award CC to xxxxx for the following reasons. Firstly he did a fantastic job with the Felda launch. So much so when we presented the Roi report to dato Faizoull he was very impressed and even commented felda corporate com cannot do a better job.  Due to this report Felda is still keen to be our partner for 2014. Even the PM's dept was happy with roi report.  Have given a copy of the report to either dato anaurul or dato joe. As such we have to be fair here..We will let xxxxxxx handle the sovenir book and the monthly maintenance of our website for xx and all other events for MHC.. Tks.  xxxx xxxxx

A LEAGUE FOR THREE WEEKS?

n what can only be called as total disregard to the promotion and development of hockey, the Malaysian Hockey Confederation has decided to make a mockery of the inaugural Women's Hockey League by holding it over a three week period.
Clubs were fuming on what was deemed as high handedness by the MHC Competition Committee who pushed the fixtures down their throats, pushing aside anything that was raised.

CANADA DEFEAT MALAYSIA

Canada defeated Malaysia 5-4 in the second friendly match between the two teams at the Bukit Serindit Hockey Stadium.

The two teams are playing three FRIENDLY matches that the Malaysian Hockey Confederation has WRONGFULLY misled the public into believing are TEST matches.

More on the second match result later as I await to see just what the so called new official website will publish.

Remember that this site gives you the latest and we will provide you with the Malaysian team list tomorrow.
