WHY NO CBH AWARD

It came as a shock and disappointmentto many Hockey fans when the Best Player Award of the MJHL  was not announced as the Chua Boon Huat trophy.

Chua passed away in Auhust 2013 and the following year it was decided that the trophy will bear the name of the Malacca born player.

And members of his family were always invited for the MJHL final to present the award.

It is inexcusable for such an omission with the excuse being its anew set of people running the national body.

There are many that are willing to step forward to take accolades for things others have done yet these same personalities are hiding or doing a deflection when a grave error is committed.

Some have been there longer then the furniture and should have given the proper advise to those who are new.

An apology to the family of Chia has to be made and the error rectified.

Let us remember the contribution of a Son of Hockey that brought glory and Honour to our great nation.

FAREWELL NARANJAN

After battling for six months, Naranjan Singh passes away due to a massive heart Attack at the Serdang Hospoyal this morning.

The bachelor dedicated his life Hockey for decades as an umpire and technical official.

When he was first admitted to hospital last September, the Hockey fraternity rallied to help him cover medical costs and he was grateful to all.

Each time he went for his check up he would call me to update me on his condition,  somehow he knew that he was not going to make it.

He had told me that all will be over by March and little did I realise he will leave us so suddenly.

I came to know Naeabjan through hockey and the special bond we shared was also due to we had the same surname Dhaliwal.

He was kindhearted, a great Friend and above all a very honest individual, never getting upset no matter how difficult things got.

It was a year ago while sitting at the Pulapol Tenple that Narabjan told me he had never been appointed as a tournament director in his 43 years of service to the sport.

A week later his dream came true as he was appointed asTD for the National Under 16.

Narabjan will be best remembered the way he lived his life, jovial and always willing to lend a helping hand to all.

He had a great bond with his late Father Amar Songh as they were more like friends the Father and Son.

Besides hockey, his passion was Cricket and he was looking forward to catching the 2020 Workf Cup.

Naranjan would have turned 61 this May and his demise has left many in a state of shock and despair.

While we offer condolences to his family, let's also offer him a prayer so that his journey to meet his creator will be smooth.

The funeral will be held at the Lole Yew Xrematorium  at noon on Monday with the cortège leaving  as follows /

Hockey In SEA Games

While it was great to hear that four gold medals will be up for grabs at the 2017 SEA Games, the challenge is now to Ensure Hockey will be competed at the bi-annual regional games.

Besides field Hockey, a five a side version for both men and women will make its debut.

At present only Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand are certain bets to compete in hockey at the SEA Games.

Indonesia are still suspended by the International Hockey Federation while Brunei may only compete in the men's category.

It is the Indo-China countries that need to be cajoled to participate, the likes of Vietnam and, Myanmar.

And this is where the Makaysian Hockey Confederation needs to play a vital role.

The time had come for MHC to spread its wings and play the big Brother role in South East Asia.

For starters we should offer these countries technical expertise in terms of attaching coaches to these countries.

Next is to get them to play competitively and the best way is to invite them to play in the Tun Razak cup and RNA Cup.

Open the First Division of the MHL to teams from these countries.

And for Hockey 5's start an invitational tournament by offering board Abd lodging to these countries to participate.

These measures not only helps Hockey develop in these countries but also will help Ensure Hockey continues its appearance in the SEA Games.

Mike - A True Legend

Michael Francis Shepherdson , who passed away last night, was a rare gem as he skippered the Malaya teams of hockey and cricket in the 50s and 60s.

He could even squeeze in time to play as goalkeeper for Selangor's soccer team while playing hockey and cricket for the state.

He turned out for Malaya at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics in hockey and was selected by journalists for the World XI team.

Mike also played hockey at the 1958 Tokyo Asian Games and 1962 Jakarta Asian Games

The double international was a true son of TNB, as he retired after 33 years of service to the power giants.

His demise has left the sporting fraternity a void as he was truly a gentleman.
His sporting achievements are well documented and should be an inspiration to the upcoming sportsmen to to lean on to in their quest for sporting excellence.

GOODBYE RAHIM

Abdul Rahim Ahmad was a no nonsense fullback, often keeping marauding forwards at Bay with his hard hit and tackles when representing MP Klang, Selangor and Malaysia.

The 59 year old Rahim passed away early this morning, leaving behind his family and scores of Hockey friends, many shocked upon receiving the news.

Rahim, who would have turned 60 and retired this August was passionate about the sport.

I last met him at the Juniot Asia Cup in Kuantan in November and he was in his usual element, talking about Hockey as if he was still a player.

I had the Honour and privilege of working alongside Rahim as he was attached to the media centre in the Sultan Johor Cup last year.

His friendly approach made it easy for him to handle those from the media fraternity and he also provided me with technical knowledge from the perspective of a player.

Rahim and I first got in each other's way during the 1986 Sukma when I sent off the late Sulhvinderjeet Singh, and Rahim was incensed. Yet he kept his players in check and showed leadership qualities.

At the Razak Cip in Terengganu, Rahin accidentally deflected the ball into the face of Brian Jayhan Sive and he was the first to go on his knees to help stop the bleeding from just above The Eye, showing concern despite being branded the hard man of Hockey.

Many youngsters in the likes of S.Sivabalan, Eugene Lee, Maninderjit Singh picked up a lot of pointers from Abang Rahim as he was fondly known amongst the Hockey  family.

The family has lost their breadwinner, Selangor has lost a great Hockey player and we have all lost a good Friend.

May God bless his soul and give strength to his family as we all  offer him a prayer.

Goodbye my Friend and till we meet again.
