This was confirmed by national team manager George Koshy.
"He sent his letter yesterday citing family matters and we have accepted it, said Koshy.
Dot as he is affectionately known was the rock in the Malaysian defense and had quit the national team after Malaysia failed in the Olympic Qualifiers in Dublin in March 2012.
But sterling performances in domestic hockey saw him receive a call up from ex national coach Paul Revington.
However Dot was not in the team in the last Azlan Shah Cup and perhaps that drove him to make way for the younger generation to shoulder the task at the World Cup in May.
