WHY FIH SAID NO

Below is the outright rejection of the amendments to the MHC constitution by FIH. Look at the date and it was last month so why did MHC go ahead and submit the same amendments for approval to the Sports Commissioner?

A LESSON IN HISTORY

Sometimes humans are blinded by emotions so much do that they forget history.

But when the leading English daily goes on to parrot what has been said, it goes on to turn half truths to truths this misleading the readers.

This was taken from The Star Online report.

"Terengganu coach Sarjit Singh was delighted to lift the double.

“We are the first team from outside Kuala Lumpur to win the league and overall titles. It is good for the development of the sport in Terengganu,” said the former national coach"

A history lesson for both Sarjit and the writer is in order.

Yayasan NS lifted the 1993 league title, and in 1995 won the overall title.

And in 1996 Yayasan NS won the Charity Shield, League and Overall Titles without losing or drawing a single match in the season.

And to top it all its Junior side won the MJHL title double in 1995.

So unless Seremban is considered to be in Kuala Lumpur, the facts presented in the report is false.

The ringgit note can blind people into stating things that only they believe in but it cannot change history please.

WHAT CHARITY?

It was supposed to be the curtain raiser for what is said to be the most important domestic hockey competition in the country.

In reality it was a case of same shit different day as far as the manner in which the match was held.

Put aside that the quality was low but the entire organizational structure of the match revealed that the MHC is only concerned in wearing corporate shirts and basking in glory to project individuals who are vying for seats in the forthcoming elections.

It was a good gesture that MHC honored former national coach C. Para malignant with a cake for his 80th birthday. But where is the consistency?

The legendary William Fidellis turned 80 last week and the boys from NS Sikh Union held a birthday bash for him, and not even the Negeri HA or MHC did anything for person who spent his major part of his life contributing to hockey with his two sons Derek and Gary even donning national colours.

Some sikh boys appreciated the efforts of William but the NSHA officials were basking in glory at national level, with a could not care less attitude about what's happening in their own backyard!

Back to the charity shield and in the 90's the match saw even umpires paying RM1 to gain entry to the stadium for the match as the money raised went to a selected charity.

But today MHC can not even get fans to the stadium let alone do something charitable.

That goes on to show that it was just a parade to show sponsors that branding was done, match was played and wide grins all around.

Who cares if the performances on the pitch was akin to azalea KL league match, with extra officials and players sitting on steps next to team benches!

Let the circus move on, the big top has perched it's tent as the clowns rule the day.

THE POLITICIANS

The dates have yet to be decided, but the battle lines have been drawn.

For so long it is a well known fact that those in the Malaysian Hockey Confederation will not hesitate to stab anyone be in in front or the back to fulfill their agenda.

And mind you the agenda is not with regards to the progression of Malaysian Hockey, but just how inner can they get into the circle of a select few within the trusted camp of MHC President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Word has it that the MHC Extra Ordinary General Meeting will be held in JB on October 13.

That it is a Monday does not concern those charged with running the national body.

The attendance and subsequent voting at the EGM is vital as the agenda is to adopt the changes made to the MHC Constitution.

And this is where it gets murky with a power struggle that could affect the whole administration of MHC will be compromised.

When the MHF and MWHA first merged to become MHC, the key principle was power sharing. And this came the consensus to have positions for male and women candidates.

The very fundamental aspect of that socially bound contract has today been discarded if one looks at the decisions made at the recent MHC Council meeting.

For with a razor thin majority of 13-12, it was decided that the Deputy President position will no longer be reserved for a fairer sex should a male candidate be elected President.

This came about as some unscrupulous individuals started this campaign prior to the holiday trip for the World Cup in June in The Hague. Now how many actually watched the matches is a matter for another days tell all.

One male candidate has openly declared that he has the support to win the Deputy President position and that the affiliates have given him their pledges.

Obviously this candidate and his supporters forgot as to what happened in the Selangor State Government fiasco.

Back to the EGM. One does not need to be a genius to understand that in order to change the constitution . A majority of two thirds is a pre requisite.

With almost half of those attending the EGM being women, this change could well be derailed thus seeing a major crisis for MHC.

And it will be interesting to see how the President elect, a handpicked candidate of Tengku Abdullah solves this ruckus.

After all a spade is a spade, call it by any other name.

SUBAHAN UNOPPOSED

The man in the news Dato Seri Subahan Kamal said that he leaves it to the wisdom of the MHC Council and affiliates to determine who will lead the national hockey body upon the stepping down of current President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Subahan who is touted to take over the reins of MHC said that he was prepared to serve the national body.

" Those are big shoes to fill and I leave it to the wisdom of the affiliated to determine the future leadership of MHC, " said Subahan.

"It is pre-mature to talk about the presidency as we need to work as a team to ensure the sport which was put into a high profile position by Tengku Abdullah to carry on improving,"

Subahan was returned unopposed as President of Selangor Hockey Association for the second consequtive term at the associations's AGM held tonight.

Deputy President Dato’ S. Sivasundaram was also returned unopposed by the delegates present in a simple and smooth meeting.

In the elections for Vice President Maj. Rtd V. Manisegaran, Noor Azman  Ali retained their post and 3 new faces were Mr. Ganesan Shanmugam, Mr. Kuna Senathirajah & Dr. S. Shamala were elexted unanimously without contest.

SHA implementing their new constitution at this AGM also saw the position of Committee members uncontected as Mr. Zanal Abidin, Mr.Gurdip Singh Mann, Mr.P.Balamuraly, Mr. M.Karunakaran, Mr.Brian G. Fernendez filled up the 5 seats.

The new council will now meet at a later date to filling up the position of Secretary & Treasurer and 3 Appointed Member.

BROTHERHOOD!

There used to be a TV series titled the Band of Brothers.

Perhaps that was how the notion to build a group called Brotherhood was formed within the confines of the national hockey body.

This revelation surfaced lately after the Commonwealth Games debacle and although MHC had formed a panel to investigate the issues that caused the last placing in the World Cup, the report was never made public.

It seems that the Brotherhood, backed by a senior official conspired to rid the national coach of his responsibilities and had the clout to determine who coached them to the Asian Games.

Such was their strength that they could even get to determine who replaces who in the national set up.

And is the country so short of talent that we needed to bring in a foreigner as an Assistant Coach?

The fact is there is a mastermind behind all these and that person stooped so low to destroy the national agenda so as to enhance his position.

It was the "kampung" mentality that is the cancer of Malaysian Hockey and unless stemmed, the rule of "Brotherhood" will continue to prevail.

The fact that some top civil servants have also given backing to this grand plan is worrying as hockey is headed to a dark dimension with no light at the end of the tunnel.

There is no place for honest hardworking and passionate individuals as the Brotherhood has virtually done the same as the infamous 102 group that surfaced many years ago.

And do the states care? As so long as they can fill the President's ears with far fetched tales of deceit and contempt about some individuals, they warm the seats.

By the way what has happened to all the show cause letters issued to the former national coach, the two Vice Presidents and the star striker?

One player who turned his back on the nation was even given a release to play in the Hong Kong league when his reasons were "rest" to stay out of the team.

Whoever issued the release should be issued a show cause letter.

Or will someone else be issued a show cause for not acting on these show causes?

Or is it a case of "close one eye".

BAND OF BROTHERS

This is the first time the Malaysian hockey team have failed to win the bronze medal playoff since 1986. And they had two years of training and not the 35 days the coach claims. So those who blindly shower praises must also state facts like Pakistan have not played in any international tournament since November 2013 whereas we played in the Azlan Shah Cup, Champions Challenge 1. World Cup, Commonwealth Games. So let's not go overboard as we did not meet target, simple. Two months from now no one will remember how we played, that's why we still talk of 1975 and the 4th placing and 1998 and the silver medal.

SOJC NETS RM1.7M SPONSORSHIP

The Sultan Of Johor Cup is one of the most sought after tournaments at junior level and it has received international acclaim since its inception in 2011.

With it gaining reputation the 4th edition of the tournament, which will run from Oct 12-19, has received RM 1,710,000 in sponsorship to date

The sponsorship pledges were handed over today to the Crown Prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim together in the presence of Malaysian Hockey Confederation President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Johor Menteri Besar Dato Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin at its official launch.

Johor Hockey Association Deputy President, Manjit Majid Abdullah said “The status of the tournament has been increasing yearly and many teams are eager to participate in this tournament, but we have limited the entry to only six teams as we want the tournament to be played at the highest possible standard,”

India will be back to defend their title, alongside debutants Great Britain, Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand and Malaysia.

The SOJC stands as the platform for the under 21 teams around the globe to showcase their talent once a year and most of the teams use the tournament as part of their preparation for the coming Junior World Cup.

As for the Asian countries, the SOJC will play an important part in their road towards preparing for the 2015 Junior Asia Cup which will be held in Kuantan next year as it serves as a qualifier for the 2016 Junior World Cup in India.

“This tournament was developed to help the junior squad and as part ofpreparation heading towards a big event such as the Junior Asia Cup and Junior World Cup, as they need to have quality matches to see where they stand and this is the best place for the youngsters to showcase their talent and prove their worth,”.

Without a doubt the first three years of tournament proved to be fruitful for the Malaysian junior squad as they went on to finish fourth at last year Junior World Cup in India.

With most teams looking forward to the 2016 Junior World Cup, the 4thedition of the SOJC will be their first real test to see where they stand.

JUNIORS BELFAST BOUND

Seven games in Belfast, Northern Ireland from 14 – 27 September will prove to be the first test for our national junior squad before they go up against the big guns in the 4th edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup in October.

National Juniors team manager Mirnawan Nawawi said that the matches in Ireland will be the platform for the players to perform and prove themselves and from there they will narrow the team down to 18 players which will go on to do battle in the SOJC.

“We don’t have enough time on out hands to prepare the squad for the SOJC as the boys were busy with the Division One of he Malaysian Hockey League early this year and the recent Razak Cup. As such the seven games that we have arranged in Belfast will be vital for the coaches and players,”

The seven matches scheduled in Belfast are against teams that feature in their local national league and the final 18 players who will represent Malaysia at the SOJC will then be named on September 27.

However, Mirnawan made it clear that there is no specific target set for the team this time around as the squad was only formed last April.

“We do not want to place any pressure on the players for this tournament as it will only be their first tournament together as a team.

“The main aim is to go out there and do their best in each and every matchand from there we can work our way up,” said Mirnawan.

Since the inception of the SOJC in 2011, Malaysia emerged as champions at the inaugural edition, but in 2012 they finished at the bottom of the pack before finishing as runners up last year.

Mirnawan expects three of his experienced players Meor Azuan Muhamad Hasan (19), Muhammad Shahril Saabah (19), and Muhammad Haziq Samsul (20) who were in the 2013 Junior World Cup squad to help steer the team to success.

“I am sure their presence will play an important role,”

‘Currently, Meor and Shahril is with the national squad who are preparing for the Asian Games while Haziq will return to the Junior squad after being axed from the Asian team squad.

The junior squad will resume full training in September.

TM PAHANG DECLINES RENOMINATION FOR MHC PRESIDENCY

Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah dropped a bombshell when he announced that he will not seek re-election as MHC President after his term expires this October.

But he will still seek election into the post of AHF President on August 31, citing moving to a bigger ship instead of abandoning a sinking ship.

He also dispelled suggestions that approaches have been made tp a Johor royalty to tale his place in MHC.

See the video to decide for yourself...

AMBITIOUS MALAYSIANS

Ambitious. That is the best way to describe the efforts of a large number of Malaysian Hockey Confederation officials who are vying for positions in the Asian Hockey Confederation.

The AHF elections are scheduled for August 31 in Kuala Lumpur.

The MHC president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah will be vying for the post of President. He is expected to be challenged by Pakistan"s Qasim Zia who is also on the FIH Executive Board.

Dato Nur Azmi Ahmad will contest the Vice President position. There are four posts up for grabs but one is reserved for a lady.

The front runners for the VP position is Berikzay Seksembav of Kazakhstan and Thailand's Chaiyapak Siriwat. But it is learnt that India's Narinder Bhatra will not seek re-election and neither will Japan's M.Ueda due to the age regulation of 70 being imposed.

While another strong contender will come from the East Asian region comprising of Japan, China and South Korea .

A total of five Vice Presidents will be elected.

Prof Dr.S. Shamala, Manjit Majid and Dato Abd Rahim Md Arif are three candidates who are eying a seat on the AHF council. Shamsla and Rahim are incumbents in the 12 member elected council.

The irony is that most of the Malaysian candidates hardly have done anything for the betterment of hockey in the country but that has not stopped them from trying to eye a bigger role in Asian Hockey.

Perak has not held their AGM for the past four years and thus Rahim should spend time sorting out the mess in his state rather then going for another term.

Azmi should have opted for a council seat as there is a pact between some of the incumbents and thus Shamala would be a better candidate as she could win easily the women's vice presidents eat.

KOSHY QUITS AS KLHA PRESIDENT

Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association were dealt a bitter blow as their president George Koshy resigned yesterday.

Having served the association for six years as President, the decision by Koshy comes in wake of the MHC Council decision to replace him as the team manager to the Asian Games in September.

Koshy when contacted confirmed the fact that he has decided to step down as the KLHA president.

"My work commitments has been increasing and I cannot find enough time to devote to my duties as President of KLHA," said Koshy.

"I had already informed the KLHA numerous times that I do not intend to seek re-election in the forthcoming AGM which is scheduled for early next year.

"This will give KLHA time to find someone else to take over the mantle."

When asked if his decision had anything to do with the MHC decision to replace him as the national team manager, Koshy had this to say.

"Not at all for they have taken a load of my shoulder by naming another manager.

"I had my up's and downs with the national team which I managed since 2009, enjoyed every moment and am  so damn happy we finally made the World Cup, which a small step to moving back to the mainstream of the hockey world but guess making  to the Olympics during my term was not meant to be .

"I wish them well in the forthcoming Asian Games."

While Koshy would not say it, the fact was obvious that the man who provided a new dimension In managing hockey teams was not even told prior to him being replaced as national team manager for the Asian Games.

The KLHA council who are expected to meet next Monday are said to be bent on rejecting the resignation.

But Koshy is adamant that he wants to leave.

"My time is up and let someone else take KL hockey to greater heights," were the parting words of Koshy.

WHAT A SHAM MHC

In what can be labelled a conspiracy made in hell, the Malaysian Hockey Confederation decided to replace their national hockey team coach just 40 days before the Asian Games.

And in an about turn, the gold medal target, so strongly advocated in the past has now been reduced to a [lace in the final of the Asian Games, something that will not make a difference as on;y the gold medal winner makes it to the 2016 Olympics.

MHC named Arul Selvaraj as the head, given powers to pick his own assistants while Tai Beng Hai was named as the manager, thus casting a doubt on the future of George Koshy as well.

Listen to the full press conference and decide if Malaysian Hockey heads for a free fall as answers are evasive.

DUTCH STINT IS ON

While crynics continue with their barrage of criticism of the national hockey team, life goes on for them in their preparation for the Asian Games.

A total of 25 players are expected to leave for Holland on August 11 for a three week training stint and will return to Malaysia on September 2.

The plan is to have these players train and play some competence matches to prepare them for the Asiad where gold is the target and a place in the 2016 Rio Olympics that cones with it.

" As of today we are still proceeding with the plan for the three week training camp in Holland," said team manager George Koshy.

"We received approval in principle last month from both the MHC and NSC and proceeded by finalizing the arrangementsfor it .

"Unless otherwise advised, we hope to name the players by the end of the week as they will be the ones fighting for a place for the final squad for the Asian Games."

The team will be based at HC ijsseloever in ijsselstein during the three weeks in Holland.

With the Razak Cup scheduled for August 15 to 24, those named will not be able to represent their respective states.

THE NATION YEARNS FOR CHUA

It was today a year  ago that fate dealt Malaysian hockey a bitter blow as Marcus Chua Boon Huat died tragically in a road accident.

His death sent shockwaves, with many still being unable to come to terms that the life of a person, loved by so many was snatched away all of a sudden.

While the family has tried to overcome the loss of their loved one, Malaysian hockey has somewhat struggled to fill the shows of the pony tailed smiling Chinese boy that hailed from Malacca.

Chua had a mission, and that was to see Malaysia play in the World Cup, and although he was not there in The Hague last May, there is no doubt that Chua played a vital role in ensuring Malaysia play their first World Cup since 1998 on merit.

Chua gave his all when on the pitch, never one to pull punches, and if only the current batch of national players can for a moment stop and reflecy on how the famous Number 3 conducted himself on the pitch, will they play their hearts out.

Chua had a tattoo “Living The Dream” inscribed on his arm but today Malaysian hockey is “Living in the dreams”.

Ask any hockey fan, player or official, they all have kind words to say about Chua, and he deserved every accolade that was showered upon him as he left the world to be with his creator.

There is an important lesson that all connected with Malaysian hockey can learn from Chua, for he was one person that never gave up or threw the towel no matter how impossible the task looked.

Chua was left out of the national team for reasons best known to some but he strived to prove critics wong, never begrudged anyone as he worked hard on the pitch doing what he did best, let his hockey do the talking.

And Chua was instrumental in the national team that finished fifth in the World League in June last year in Johor Baru that eventually paved the way for Malaysia to play in the 2014 World Cup.

Today Malaysian hockey is divided with many factions, all pulling in the opposite direction, with personalities [utting their self interest over the nations.

Chua is probably looking at all that is transpiring from God’s home, shaking his head in disbelief that what was a smooth ride a year ago has now ended tragically.

{ersonally I miss Chua, for his death coming weeks after I lost my Mum last year created a big vacuum in my life, for Chua was someone who would call and seekadvice on what to do when put in a situation.

Chua, there is one humble request from all of us to you, put in a good word to the almighty for Malaysian hockey needs divine intervention since you are notaround personally to help us be back on the right track.

Rest in peace brother, we all miss you.

A QUESTION OF BALLS

Nope this is not a lewd posting but rather a question of balls being used at a premier tournament.

The balls being used are of training quality, alleged a team and they said that the match officials concurred with them.

And mind you the umpires and technical officials are of FIH standard.

But when the matter was raised to the relevant officials, it was brushed aside, and this happened twice.

Of course the Committee will not lift a finger on it as they lack scrotal gumption to do anything.

And after the unfortunate incident about the MRSM student who died tragically having been struck bylightening, one would expect due care for the poor ball boys.

While the Technical Officials strut around with their specially stitched shirts, spare a thought for the ball boys who do not receive a t shirt let alone a rain coat.

Would the committee let their own children work under such circumstances?

Truly living up to the Kampung League status.

Await the next story on how certain teams are privileged

DOT RETIRES

Mohd Madzli Ikmar, the face of the Malaysian defense has quit the national training squad and announced his retirement from international hockey.

This was confirmed by national team manager George Koshy.

"He sent his letter yesterday citing family matters and we have accepted it, said Koshy.

Dot as he is affectionately known was the rock in the Malaysian defense and had quit the national team after Malaysia failed in the Olympic Qualifiers in Dublin in March 2012.

But sterling performances in domestic hockey saw him receive a call up from ex national coach Paul Revington.

However Dot was not in the team in the last Azlan Shah Cup and perhaps that drove him to make way for the younger generation to shoulder the task at the World Cup in May.

WHO RULES THE ROOST?

It was downright funny yet ridicolous watching the prize presentation ceremony of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup last Sunday.

An SMS was dispatched to MHC Senior Vice President Dato Nur Azmi Ahmad asking him if there were changes in the structure as Azmi and another Senior VP Dr. Shamala Subramaniam were seated in the second row, with the paid Secretary of MHC in the front row with the VVIP's.

Such a thing should never have happened and if one traces back the roles of the past Secretaries, right from when I can remember, Dato G. Vijaynathan, K. Indran, S. Prempalam, S. Satgunam, T. Paramalingam, Hashim Mohd Yusof and Maninderjit Singh, such a situation never arose as they always placed elected office bearers at the forefront.

One could blame the protocol section and whoever, but the buck stops with the administrators of hockey - those paid staff should know where their place is.

If one wants to assume the role of the office bearers, then just wait till the AGM and contest the position, not pull the rug beneath them.

Whatever said and done, Azmi, to be fair does his fair share of running around and was the most senior MHC official present at the final, and should have, or rather must be given the due recognition he deserves. Respect his position as he won fair and square at the AGM.

It is clear that Perak HA has no regard towards protocol and such an action shows that maybe there was a hidden agenda with the MHC elections coming soon

By the way, a word of advice to the Secretary, going by records, your term comes to an end on April 8 and you have been passing remarks that no one talks to me these days. oh well lets see when the crown that your wear so proudly on your head is taken off, will you be as "popular" as you claim you are?

Be god fearing please if you understand what life is, or you can behave like the goon who goes around threatening people who will soon get his just reward.

MHC OWES MONEY TO KIDS

There is an official of MHC that now claims that he was a macho and almost punched me on the day of the MJHL final.

It was because I questioned how MHC officials were donning attire meant for the Technical Officials of the MJHL and he claimed that the MHC used their own money for that purpose.

So since you are so macho, how is it that the poor ball puckers of the MJHL were not even given a T Shirt for their three months of service and at times were drenched in rain, no masks for the haze and worst of all not paid?

Each ball picker was to receive RM10 per match and from January till today they have yet to see a single cent of their earnings?

Explain that before going around talking about punching people lah. Or is it all those in hospital with broken limbs are there due to your physical ability?

Today's friends are those who back stabbed you two years ago and it was this guy whose late mother you insulted that pleaded with Tengku Abdullah to reinstate you when your current kissing cousins three you out and kept the door shut.

Withholding results and information so as to show your power will get you nowhere but put you closer to destruction.

Oh yes punch me if you dare please as I also know that our country has law, and implements it, unlike those who you work for that run lawless competitions

KEDAH WIN, SELANGOR IMPRESS

Kedah Sports Council carved out a slim 1-0 win over Selangor Sports Schol in the Women's League at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil last night. But there was penny of drama off the pitch in a game that was highly entertaining as both teams played free flowing hockey.

UiTM OFF TO A WINNING START

It was not their best performance but UiTM Lions in making their debut at national club level competitions played well enough to defeat Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) 4-0 at the National Hockey Stadium.

After a rather hesitant start, UiTM who led 1-0 at halftime went on to add another three goals in the second half to collect all three points.
